At a Funeral

At a funeral.
The laughter of a  child,
That pierces through solemn grief.
The smiling photograph,
Set against the placid reality.
The smile that slips through
The curtain of tears.
The reality and the mask,
Yours, theirs and the one that got away.
The conflicts that drift in and out.
The coldness and inertness,
That you take shelter under.
The inevitable intertwining,
Of life, death and time.
The discovery and struggle,
With the Illusion of control
The Faith or absence of it.
The Anger or absence of it.
The death and birth inside you,
At a funeral.
